STARTMAPPING
Scroll down for tips on how to get started using our mapping tools.
STEP 1:
Go to OpenStreetMap.org and click on the 'Sign Up' button in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
STEP 2:
Fill out the form with your information and hit 'Submit'.
STEP 3:
Select 'Rest of the World' and scroll down.
STEP 4:
Check that you have read and agree to the contributor terms and the Terms of Use, and click that you consider your contributions Public Domain (so everyone can use them), then hit 'Continue'.
STEP 5:
Go to your email and click the link to confirm your account.
STEP 6:
Login with your newly created username and password.
STEP 7:
Go to tasks.hotosm.org and click the 'Log in' button at the top right-hand corner of the screen.
STEP 8:
Grant Hot Task Manager access to your account.
STEP 9:
Go back to the main tasks.hotosm.org page and click your username in the top right-hand corner of the page.
STEP 10:
Click the orange 'Add/Edit Contact Details' button.
STEP 11:
Add your email to your Hot account and click 'Save'.
STEP 12:
Now you can start mapping- go back to the home page and click 'Start Mapping'.
STEP 13:
Look through the mapping tasks and find one that interests you.
STEP 14:
Make sure the task you choose shows 'Level: Beginner' and click on it.
STEP 15:
When you see a page like this, scroll down.
STEP 16:
Click the orange 'Map' button.
STEP 17:
Click a white square on the grid at the right OR click the orange 'Select a Random Task' button.
STEP 18:
Click 'Start Editor'. Leave the editor choice box on the default setting.
STEP 19:
Now you're mapping! Click 'Help' at the top of the screen at any time to learn more about the OSM interface.
